The cost of the CITB Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme course, better known as SEATS, depends mainly on whether you take it online or in a classroom, and where. What changes the price

• Online vs classroom. Online sessions often price lower and save a day of travel.
• Location. Classroom prices vary by venue and region.
• How far ahead you book. The cheapest dates are usually the ones booked early.

What the day covers

SEATS packs eight modules into one day, typically around seven and a half hours of learning. Knowing what is in it helps you judge the price, module by module:

• The importance of the environment and why it now sits alongside safety in how sites are judged.
• Environmental legislation: the rules that apply to a working site and who enforces them.
• Environmental management systems and how main contractors run them on live projects.
• Site waste management: segregation, storage and the paperwork that follows waste off site.
• Pollution prevention and water management, the area where sites most often get caught out.
• Dust, noise and nuisance and keeping the site workable for everyone around it.
• Energy and resources: cutting use and cost at site level.
• Being a good neighbour: the practical side of running a site the public complains about less.

Certificate and renewal

You leave with a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate valid for five years. There are no formal entry requirements, so you can book straight onto a date without prerequisite courses, though the content is pitched at people in a supervisory or management role.

Online vs classroom in practice

The online version is a live tutor-led course, not a recorded module, and carries the same content and the same CITB certificate as the classroom day. For a single-day course the practical difference is mostly cost and convenience: no travel, no parking, and often a lower headline price, which is why online dates tend to sell first.

Who takes SEATS?

SEATS is aimed at site supervisors and managers who need a working understanding of environmental issues on site: the legislation, sustainability best practice, and how to identify and control the environmental impact of their work. Three ways to pay less for the same certificate

• Book online delivery. The live online course carries the same content and the same CITB certificate, usually at a lower price and with no travel or parking on top.
• Book early. Prices in the table are per date, and the cheapest dates are the ones with availability left, which means the ones booked ahead.
• Book as a group. Putting several supervisors through together is cheaper per head than five separate bookings, and it keeps the whole team on the same five-year renewal cycle.

On that last point: because SEATS certificates run for five years, many firms deliberately book it in the same season as SMSTS or SSSTS renewals, so the site team's tickets expire together and one training week covers the lot.
