The refresher must be completed before your current certificate expires. If it lapses, you are back to the full 2-day course, so the refresher is the single easiest saving on this page.
What the two days cover
Knowing what is in the course makes the price easier to judge. The two days cover nine modules:
- BS 5975 and the temporary works process from design brief to removal.
- The role of the Temporary Works Coordinator and its legal context.
- Roles in the temporary works team: designated individual, supervisor, designer and checker.
- The four Cs: communication, coordination, cooperation and competency.
- Legislation and codes of practice.
- The temporary works register and design brief, the two documents the coordinator owns.
- Risk assessment and method statements.
- Worked examples of temporary works: excavation support, formwork, falsework, scaffolding and propping.
- Checking, permitting, loading and removal: the control points that stop collapses.
The course assumes a construction background, and a working knowledge of site management helps. It runs in classrooms and as a live online course with the same content and CITB certificate.
The five-year renewal maths
Your certificate lasts five years. Renewing costs one 1-day TWC Refresher per cycle, and you must complete it before the certificate expires. Miss the window and you are back to the full 2-day course at the full price, roughly double what a refresher place costs on most dates. Diarise the expiry: it is the most expensive date to forget in this article.
What changes the price
- Online vs classroom. Online courses often price lower and remove travel and accommodation costs, which for a 2-day course can matter more than the course fee difference.
- Location. Classroom prices differ by venue and region.
- How far ahead you book. Popular dates fill first, and the cheapest sessions are usually the ones booked early.
- Full course vs refresher. Renewing on time with the 1-day refresher costs a fraction of repeating the full course.
