Overview

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 apply to every construction project in Great Britain, from a full commercial build to a domestic extension, and they assign legal duties to everyone involved: clients, principal designers, designers, principal contractors, contractors and workers. Most prosecutions under CDM come not from exotic failures but from duty holders who never understood what the regulations asked of them.

This course walks through CDM 2015 in plain language: what each duty holder must actually do, when a project is notifiable to HSE on an F10, and the documents that carry compliance, the pre-construction information, the construction phase plan, and the health and safety file handed over at the end. It covers how the duties scale with project size, what clients repeatedly get wrong, and how designers are expected to eliminate risk on the drawing board rather than leave it for site to manage.

Our CDM 2015 guide is a good companion read. Duty holders who manage sites cover CDM in depth on SMSTS, and construction safety professionals go further with the NEBOSH Construction Certificate. Browse related courses under construction training.

When construction work is expected to last longer than 30 working days with more than 20 workers at any point, or to exceed 500 person days. Notification is made on form F10, normally by the client.
Every duty holder benefits, but the course is especially valuable for clients and designers, the duty holders most often caught out because CDM is not their day job.
Typically a half-day to one day depending on the depth of case work required. In-company sessions can use your own live projects as the worked examples.
