The Level 3 Diploma in the Installation of Pipework Components in Construction is the qualification that proves you are a competent pipefitter, installing pipework on construction and engineering projects. It is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 603/2520/3). It is the step up from the Level 2 Supporting the Installation of Pipework Components qualification: where the Level 2 is the support role, this Level 3 covers installing pipework in your own right.
It is aimed at experienced pipework installers who have the skills but not the formal qualification. An NVQ-style diploma is competence-based, so instead of written exams you prove you can already do the work to national standards, assessed from your own job. It is completed remotely.
It is made up of five mandatory units covering shaping pipework components, assembling pipework to specification, positioning and installing pipework, marking out for pipefitting, and testing the performance and condition of installed pipework, plus one optional unit. There are no written exams.
It is a recognised Level 3 qualification that can support a CSCS skilled-worker card for your role. The CSCS Cards guide explains how the card, the qualification and the CITB HS&E test fit together. You can also browse the full range of construction NVQs.
