Abrasive Wheels Training Course

Overview

Abrasive wheels are among the most dangerous tools in routine use: a wheel run beyond its speed, mounted badly or used for the wrong job can burst at thousands of revolutions per minute. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require anyone who mounts or uses abrasive wheels to be properly trained, and this course is the recognised way to meet that duty for angle grinders, bench grinders, cut-off saws and disc cutters.

The training covers the hazards and the discipline that controls them: wheel types and their markings, matching the wheel to the machine and the job, speed ratings and why exceeding them destroys wheels, inspection and storage, correct mounting procedure, guarding and PPE, and safe working practice from starting up to dressing. Practical mounting is included where the format allows, and delegates leave able to recognise a dangerous wheel or setup before it fails.
