Overview

Fire safety awareness is the training every employee should have, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 expects it: the responsible person must give staff adequate fire safety training when they start work and whenever risks change. This short course delivers that grounding for staff in any workplace, from offices and warehouses to sites and care settings.

The course covers how fires start and spread, the fire triangle and the common ignition sources in a workplace; the fire precautions people walk past every day, escape routes, fire doors, call points and extinguishers, and why keeping them clear and working matters; what to do on discovering a fire and on hearing the alarm; and the basics of extinguisher types and when it is safe to use one. It is short, practical and aimed at everyone, not just nominated fire staff.

Staff with specific fire duties need more: the Fire Marshal course trains the nominated wardens who run evacuations and daily checks, and fire safety specialists progress through the fire risk assessment qualifications and the NEBOSH Fire Certificate. Browse the cluster under fire safety training.

It is a short session, typically half a day or less, and can be delivered in the classroom, online or at your own premises.
This course gives every employee the basics. The Fire Marshal course goes further for the nominated people who run evacuations, sweep areas and carry out fire checks.
Refresh when your fire risk changes, when premises or processes change, and periodically as part of your training cycle. Many employers refresh awareness training annually or every two years.
It covers extinguisher types and safe limits. Hands-on extinguisher practice is included where the venue and format allow, and is easiest to arrange on in-company sessions.
