The Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment is the qualification for people who carry out fire risk assessments of simple, low risk premises: offices, shops, small workplaces and similar buildings. It proves you can identify fire hazards, evaluate risk, judge precautions and produce a suitable and sufficient written assessment.
It is aimed at people who do or will do assessments themselves: in-house health and safety staff assessing their own workplaces, facilities managers covering a portfolio of simple premises, consultants starting out in fire safety, and fire wardens stepping up.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and equivalent law in Scotland and Northern Ireland, nearly every non-domestic building must have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, and the Building Safety Act has sharpened the expectation that the person doing it is demonstrably competent. Regulated qualifications are how assessors prove that competence.
This Award is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 610/7041/5). Assessment is remote: you produce real fire risk assessment work and review it with your assessor through professional discussion, with no exams.
