Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment Awareness

Accredited by ProQual

The Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment Awareness is the entry point to the fire risk assessment ladder. It gives you a regulated, recognised grounding in how fire risk assessment works: the law, the fire triangle, how fires start and spread, and how a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is put together.

It is aimed at people who work with fire risk assessments rather than write them: fire wardens and marshals, facilities and building managers, landlords, health and safety staff and anyone whose role touches the fire safety of a building. It is also the natural first step for people who want to become fire risk assessors.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and equivalent law in Scotland and Northern Ireland, nearly every non-domestic building must have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, and the Building Safety Act has sharpened the expectation that the person doing it is demonstrably competent. Regulated qualifications are how assessors prove that competence.

This Award is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 610/0780/8). Assessment is remote, through a portfolio and assignments reviewed with your assessor, with no exams.

Ready to carry out assessments yourself? The next step is the Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment, then the Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification for complex premises. Safety officers may also want the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Health and Safety. You can also browse the full range of qualifications.
