Level 4 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment

Accredited by ProQual

The Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification is for practising fire risk assessors working on more complex premises: larger workplaces, buildings with sleeping risk, mixed use buildings and premises with vulnerable occupants. It proves you can assess complex fire risk and produce assessments that stand up to scrutiny.

It is aimed at people already assessing: consultants growing their practice beyond simple premises, in-house assessors covering larger estates, housing professionals dealing with residential blocks, and fire safety officers formalising years of experience.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and equivalent law in Scotland and Northern Ireland, nearly every non-domestic building must have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, and the Building Safety Act has sharpened the expectation that the person doing it is demonstrably competent. Regulated qualifications are how assessors prove that competence.

This qualification is awarded by ProQual, an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation. Assessment is remote: you evidence real fire risk assessments of suitably complex premises and defend your judgements in professional discussion with your assessor, with no exams.

Starting out instead? The Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Assessment covers simple premises. At the top of the ladder sit the Level 5 Award and the Level 5 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment for advanced practice. You can also browse the full range of qualifications.

Buildings where fire risk goes beyond the simple: sleeping accommodation such as flats, hotels and care settings, larger workplaces, mixed use buildings and premises with vulnerable occupants or complex escape arrangements.

The Level 5 Award and Level 5 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment recognise advanced practice and support applications to professional fire risk assessor registers.
