Overview

First aid skills fade fast without practice, which is why the HSE strongly recommends that workplace first aiders take an annual refresher between their 3-yearly requalifications. This short online course is that refresher: a live, instructor-led session that revisits the life-saving core of the syllabus and updates any protocol changes, without a day away from work.

The session concentrates on the skills that decay quickest and matter most: the primary survey, CPR technique and defibrillator use, choking, serious bleeding and the recovery position. It is a refresher, not a certificate course: your EFAW or FAW certificate continues to run its three years, and this keeps the skills behind it sharp, with a record of attendance for your first aid needs assessment.

When your certificate does approach expiry, renew with the 2-day FAW requalification or by retaking the 1-day EFAW course. Employers running several first aiders can put the whole team through a refresher in one online session via our employer booking service. Browse the cluster under first aid training.

It is strong HSE guidance rather than a strict legal duty: the HSE recommends annual refreshers because skills fade, and employers evidence their first aid provision partly through refresher records.
It is a short session, typically around half a day or less, delivered live online. Exact timing is confirmed when you book.
Any current EFAW or FAW certificate holder, ideally every year between requalifications, and especially first aiders who have not used their skills since training.
