Overview

The First Aid at Work certificate is valid for three years, and this 2-day requalification course is how current first aiders renew it. It compresses the full FAW syllabus into a revalidation format: skills are refreshed, updated for any changes in protocol, and re-assessed, and the renewed certificate runs for a further three years.

The two days revisit the whole first aider role: CPR and defibrillator use, choking, bleeding, shock and the recovery position, then the major illness and injury syllabus from heart attack and stroke to fractures and spinal injury. Because delegates arrive with a working base, the course moves faster than the original qualification and spends its time where skills fade: hands-on practice and scenario work, with continuous assessment throughout.

Timing matters: the HSE expects requalification before the certificate expires, and a lapsed certificate generally means retaking the full course, so book with margin. Between renewals, the annual online refresher keeps skills current, exactly as the HSE recommends. If your workplace only needs emergency-level cover, the 1-day EFAW course may be the better renewal route. Browse the cluster under first aid training.

First Aid at Work ReQualification FAQs

Before your current certificate expires. Book two to three months ahead so a change of plan or a full course of dates does not leave you lapsed.
HSE guidance allows a short window at the training provider's discretion, but the safe assumption is that a lapsed certificate means retaking the full course. Renew in date and the question never arises.
Two days, against three days for the traditional full course, because it revalidates an existing first aider rather than training from scratch.
Yes, continuous practical assessment across the two days, the same standard as the original qualification.
No, it renews the full First Aid at Work qualification. EFAW holders renew by retaking the 1-day EFAW course, or step up to full FAW via the blended course.
Prices for the FAW requalification course vary by location, group size and whether you book a public date or an in-company course. Where live dates are shown at the top of this page, the price against each date is the full cost of a place. Otherwise send an enquiry from this page and we will come back within one working day with options and pricing.
Yes. FAW requalification works well delivered to a whole team at once, on site or at a venue near you, and in-company delivery is often the cheapest way to train several people. Request a quote through our employer booking page, with purchase order support included.
The course runs on demand as well as on any public dates shown at the top of this page. Send an enquiry with your preferred timing and location and we will confirm available options within one working day.
