The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety is the recognised qualification for people with real fire safety responsibilities: facilities and building managers, health and safety professionals adding fire depth, and anyone whose role includes fire risk assessment review or fire safety management across premises. It sits well above awareness and marshal training, applying NEBOSH's structured management approach to fire.
The qualification covers fire safety management within a recognised framework: the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the duties of the responsible person, the principles of fire and explosion, preventive and protective measures from ignition control to compartmentation, means of escape, fire detection and suppression, and the fire risk assessment process itself. Assessment combines a written assessment with a practical fire risk assessment of a real workplace, so the qualification proves you can actually do the job, not just describe it.
Delegates commonly hold or study the NEBOSH General Certificate alongside, which covers the wider health and safety management system fire sits inside. Practising fire risk assessors also progress through the Ofqual-regulated fire risk assessment qualifications to Level 5. Fire marshals and wardens are covered by the Fire Marshal course.
