NPORS

NPORS, the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme, is one of the two main UK card schemes for plant operators, recognised by major contractors, HS2 and the wider construction, industrial and agricultural sectors. NPORS training and testing covers the full range of plant categories, including 360 excavators, forward tipping dumpers, telehandlers, rollers, dozers, skid steers and many more, with each category tested and carded separately.

The scheme suits both ends of the experience scale. Novice operators complete a training course followed by the NPORS theory and practical tests. Experienced operators who already work plant daily can book experienced worker tests, which assess rather than train, making NPORS one of the fastest and most cost-effective routes to a recognised operator card. Testing can often be delivered on your own site using your own machines, which keeps costs down and means operators are assessed on the kit they actually use.

On passing you receive the NPORS operator card for your categories. Operators working on sites that require CITB HS&E test evidence can take the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test alongside, and NPORS cards can carry the CSCS logo where scheme rules are met. Site supervisors and managers overseeing plant operations typically hold SSSTS or SMSTS, and lifting teams are covered by the Slinger Signaller and Crane Supervisor NVQs.
