NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations - Crane Supervisor

Accredited by ProQual

The NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations - Crane Supervisor is the competence qualification for a crane supervisor, and it is the qualification you need to upgrade your CPCS Red Trained Operator card to the CPCS Blue Competent Operator card in the A62 Crane Supervisor category. This is the qualification route for experienced lifting personnel stepping up to supervise lifts. It is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 601/5664/8). It sits at Level 4 on the regulated qualifications framework.

A crane supervisor supervises lifting operations on site, making sure each lift is carried out safely to the lift plan, directing the team and controlling the work around the lift. An NVQ is competence-based: instead of sitting written exams, you prove you can already do the job, assessed against national standards using evidence from your own work. The NVQ portfolio is built and assessed remotely, with your assessor supporting you by video call, so there is no time away from work for the qualification itself.

It is made up of mandatory units covering working relationships, supervising lifting operations using lifting equipment, co-ordinating work and site preparation, allocating and monitoring plant and people, and maintaining dimensional accuracy.

To get the CPCS Blue Competent Operator card you complete this NVQ, hold a current pass in the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, and pass the separate CPCS technical tests for the A62 Crane Supervisor category. The NVQ is the competence part of that route. CPCS Blue cards are valid for five years.

CourseGenie also lists the other lifting NVQs, including Slinger/Signaller (Level 2) and Appointed Person (Level 5). You can also browse the full range of construction NVQs.
