Overview

PASMA Towers for Users is the recognised national qualification for anyone who assembles, dismantles, moves or inspects mobile access towers. Aluminium towers are everywhere on UK sites and in maintenance work, and they are involved in a steady stream of serious falls, almost always because they were built wrong, altered wrong or moved with someone on them. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require tower work to be done by competent people, and the PASMA card is how that competence is evidenced across the industry.

The one-day course combines theory and hands-on building. Delegates learn the regulations and guidance, tower components and their inspection, safe assembly and dismantling using the through-the-trap (3T) and advance guardrail methods, stability rules including ties and outriggers, and the checks and handover requirements before a tower is used. Everyone builds, alters and strips a tower under instruction, and passes a theory test and practical assessment to gain the PASMA Towers for Users card, valid for five years.

Tower work sits inside the broader work at height picture: the Working at Height course covers the hierarchy of control and harness basics for everyone whose feet leave the ground, and supervisors and managers cover height work planning on SSSTS and SMSTS. Browse the cluster under working at height training.

PASMA Tower FAQs

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require tower work to be carried out by competent people. PASMA is the industry scheme for evidencing that competence, and most contractors and clients will not allow tower work without a current card.
