Falls from height are the single biggest cause of workplace deaths in UK construction, and the Work at Height Regulations 2005 apply to any work where a person could fall a distance liable to cause injury, which includes work from ladders, roofs, platforms, and next to openings and edges. The regulations demand that height work is avoided where possible, and properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent people where it cannot be.
This course builds that competence for the people doing the work. It covers the hierarchy of control, avoid, prevent, mitigate, and how it drives equipment choice from scaffolds and towers to MEWPs, podiums and ladders; safe use of ladders and stepladders, which still cause a large share of falls; harness and lanyard basics including pre-use checks and anchor points; fragile surfaces and roof work dangers; and the inspection and reporting rules for height equipment. Delegates leave able to recognise unsafe height work and challenge it before someone falls.
