Overview

The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test is the gateway to almost every CSCS card: fail it and the card application stops, however good your qualifications are. The test mixes knowledge questions with behavioural case studies, and it catches out two groups in particular: experienced workers who have not sat a test in years, and workers whose English reading speed makes timed multiple-choice questions harder than the content itself.

This preparation course fixes both. It works through the test structure and question styles, the knowledge areas the test draws from, from legal duties and RAMS to dust, noise, height and plant, and the behavioural case studies, which reward thinking like a safe worker rather than memorising answers. Delegates practise with realistic mock questions under timing, so the real sitting holds no surprises. The course maps to the Operatives test and can be tailored for the Specialists variants.

The test itself is booked separately at a CITB test centre; our CITB HS&E test guide covers booking, costs and what to expect on the day. If you are working towards the green card, pair the test with the Level 1 Award or the CITB Health and Safety Awareness course, and see the CSCS cards guide for how it all fits together.

Preparation for the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test FAQs

The core course maps to the Operatives test, the one most CSCS card applications need. Preparation for the Specialists variants can be arranged: tell us which test you are sitting when you enquire.
No. The HS&E test is sat separately at a CITB-approved test centre. This course prepares you for it; our HS&E test guide covers the booking process.
Many people pass with self-study. The course earns its keep for those out of testing practice, those short on revision discipline, and teams an employer needs through the test first time to hit a carding deadline.
A pass counts towards a CSCS card application for two years. Plan the test and your qualification so both are in date when you apply.
Prices for test preparation vary by location, group size and whether you book a public date or an in-company course. Where live dates are shown at the top of this page, the price against each date is the full cost of a place. Otherwise send an enquiry from this page and we will come back within one working day with options and pricing.
Yes. Test preparation is often delivered to whole teams at once, and in-company delivery is usually the most cost-effective way to train several people. Request a quote through our employer booking page, with purchase order support included.
The course runs on demand as well as on any public dates shown at the top of this page. Send an enquiry with your preferred timing and location and we will confirm available options within one working day.
