The Prevent duty comes from the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, which requires specified authorities, including schools, colleges, universities, health bodies, prisons and local authorities, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. In practice the duty lands on front-line staff: the teacher, nurse, support worker or manager who notices something changing in a person and has to decide what to do about it.
This course makes that decision manageable. It explains what radicalisation actually is and how it happens, online and off; the vulnerabilities and behavioural changes that can signal someone being drawn in, and the difference between concerning behaviour and lawful belief; and what a proportionate response looks like: raising a concern through your organisation's safeguarding lead and, where appropriate, the Channel programme, which provides voluntary, confidential support rather than a criminal process. Staff leave knowing the duty is safeguarding, not surveillance.
Prevent sits naturally alongside wider safeguarding practice: the Safeguarding Adults course covers the parallel duty to recognise and act on abuse and neglect. Both carry CPD certification for your training records.
