About the Site Management Safety Training Scheme Refresher
The CITB SMSTS Refresher is a two-day course designed for delegates whose existing SMSTS certificate is approaching expiry. It updates knowledge on current legislation and best practice, and issues a new certificate valid for a further five years.

A valid SMSTS certificate that has not yet expired
If your certificate has already expired, you must take the full five-day SMSTS course

Book the refresher within the 12 months before your current certificate expires. You cannot take the refresher if your certificate has already lapsed — you would need the full 5-day course.
Yes. Live online refresher courses are accepted by CITB and produce an identical certificate to the classroom version.
If your SMSTS certificate has expired, even by a single day, the refresher is no longer an option. You must complete the full five-day SMSTS course again.
