Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Heritage Skills Roof Slating and Tiling

Accredited by ProQual

The NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Heritage Skills (Roof Slating and Tiling) is the advanced qualification for roofers working on historic and traditional buildings, and it is the route to the CSCS Gold Advanced Craft card. An NVQ is competence-based: you prove you can already do the work, assessed against national standards from your own projects, with no exams. The whole qualification is completed remotely.

It is aimed at roofers who slate and tile heritage and conservation work: repairing and re-covering roofs on listed and traditional buildings, matching existing materials, using traditional detailing and fixings, and conserving as much original fabric as possible. Heritage projects increasingly require proof of conservation competence, and this NVQ is that proof.

This NVQ is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 610/7585/1). It is made up of core units covering health and safety, efficient working and resource handling, plus heritage units covering the conservation slating and tiling you do.

Completing the NVQ, together with a pass in the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test at the level for your occupation, lets you apply for the CSCS Gold Advanced Craft card. The CSCS Cards guide explains how the card, the qualification and the test fit together.

For general pitched roofing, the routes are the Level 2 and Level 3 Roofing Occupations NVQs. Leadworkers and hard metal roofers should look at the Heritage Skills Lead and Hard Metal Roofing NVQ. You can also browse the full range of construction NVQs.
