The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices, usually called the IQA award, is the qualification you need to become an internal quality assurer of assessment. It is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 600/2163/9).
An internal quality assurer (IQA) checks and supports the work of assessors, making sure assessment of a qualification is fair, consistent and to national standards. It is the natural next step for an experienced assessor, and it is the role every centre delivering NVQs needs in place.
The award is made up of two units: one covering the knowledge of the principles and practices of internal quality assurance, and one covering internally assuring the quality of assessment in practice. It carries a total qualification time of around 120 hours and 90 guided learning hours.
It is assessed by portfolio. You quality-assure real assessment activity, so you need access to assessors who are assessing their own learners. It usually follows the Level 3 Assessing (CAVA) qualification, and it supports the quality assurance of the construction NVQs and other vocational qualifications.
