NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management

Accredited by ProQual

The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management is the qualification that proves you are a competent construction contracting and commercial manager, and it is a route to the CSCS Black Manager card. It is awarded by ProQual and regulated by Ofqual (qualification number 610/3957/3). It sits at Level 6, which is honours-degree level on the regulated qualifications framework, and it is completed remotely.

Where the Level 6 Site Management NVQ is about running the site, this NVQ is about the contracting and commercial side: estimating, tendering, procurement, surveys, programming and controlling contract work. It is aimed at experienced contracts managers, commercial managers and estimators who run construction projects from the contracting side and need a recognised Level 6 qualification. An NVQ is competence-based, so instead of written exams you prove you can already do the job, assessed from your own work.

This NVQ is made up of five mandatory units covering construction health and safety, managing team performance, leading meetings and decisions, working relationships and your own professional development, plus four optional units chosen to match your role from areas such as planning surveys, establishing the condition of property, identifying and evaluating project risk, coordinating project designs, developing a programme of works, obtaining tenders and appointing, submitting tenders, procurement planning, and controlling and optimising contract progress.

Completing the NVQ, together with a pass in the Managers and Professionals (MAP) CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, lets you apply for the CSCS Black Manager card. The CSCS Cards guide explains how the Black card, the qualification and the test fit together.

At Level 6 this NVQ also supports professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Building, and many managers use it towards becoming a Member of the CIOB (MCIOB). Experienced managers can progress to the Level 7 Senior Management NVQ. CourseGenie also lists the Level 3 Contracting Operations NVQ as an earlier step.
