Overview

SHEA Gas is the safety passport for the UK gas networks. SHEA stands for Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness, and the scheme is run by EUSR, the Energy and Utility Skills Register. Gas network operators and their contractors require a current SHEA Gas registration before people work on or near their assets, from mains replacement crews to reinstatement teams and meter workers.

The course combines the SHEA core, the safety, health and environmental knowledge shared across all the utility passports, with the gas-specific content that makes this scheme distinct: the properties and behaviour of natural gas, working around live gas plant and pipelines, dealing with gas escapes and emergencies, and the controls that keep excavation and connection work safe on an operational network. On passing, your registration is recorded with EUSR, where network clients verify it.

Gas teams that break ground also need safe digging competence: the EUSR CAT 1 and 2 course and CAT and Genny training cover locating and avoiding buried services. Colleagues on other networks hold the parallel passports, SHEA Power and SHEA Telecom. Browse the range under utilities training.
